Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Felt That

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you're ready for another amazing challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Our theme this week is, "Felt That" and we're showcasing products from the Simon Says Stamp Spring Plush Release. The felt is amazing and the dies are adorable and cut felt like butter. Click here to see the entire release.

I had so much fun with this challenge and created a project using almost 100% felt. The only elements on my piece that aren't felt are the letters, sequins and beads. I hope you give this challenge a try and play along with us for a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp's amazing store.

I created a background onto felt that I adhered to a chipboard panel. If you'd like to give this a try, follow along below to see how I created my background on felt and some of the flower elements using different metal wafer dies.

To complete the first step in creating my background, I adhered a piece of white felt to a piece of white chipboard using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

I covered the felt with Tumbled Glass Distress Paint. As you can see, I gently brushed the paint dauber over the felt so there would be white areas left on the background. If you want complete coverage, just apply more pressure when applying the paint.

After the paint on the felt is completely dry, it's time to add some interest to my background. Using stamps on felt will not work, so I created a background using household items or things that would have otherwise been thrown in the trash. To create these lines, I dipped the edge of an old gift card in Black Soot Distress Paint mixed with water and gently applied them in random areas on the background.

To create the little circles, I used the end of a pencil and dipped it into the distress paint mixture I created for the lines. The felt will soak up the paint when applied so you may need to go over the same circle a couple of times.

Next, I used the cap of the distress paint bottle and the top of an old salt shaker to create the circles. Just dip them in the same paint mixture and transfer onto your felt background in random areas.

When everything was completely dry, I painted the center of the circles with Fresco Finish Snowflake paint.

To create the large flowers for my piece, I used the Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers Hearts die. I cut down the center of the heart at an angle to create petals for my flowers. This is an example of how you can use dies you already have on hand. For the large flower, I used the larger heart in the set.

Here, you can see I used the smaller heart in the die set to create the smaller flower for my piece by going through the same process.

You can see here, how I put all the petals together to create the focal flowers for my project. For the center of the flowers I used the Simon Says Stamp Plush Daffodil & Daisy Wafer Die.

I created several other flowers from the same Simon Says Stamp Plush Daffodil & Daisy wafer die. I played around with the placement of the flowers onto my background until I was happy with the layout. It's so much easier to play around with the layout when the pieces are made of felt!!! It stays in place and doesn't move around as much as when you're using paper. This was one of the things I really enjoyed about working with felt.

I started to adhere the flowers to my background but decided I needed a little more interest to my background in some areas so I stenciled on a TCW Mini Tile Texture stencil with Broken China Distress Ink.

After adhering all the flowers to my background panel, I inked the edges with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink using a Ranger Mini Blending Tool.

I then inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink. After doing so, I realized I should have inked the edges before adhering the flowers to the background.

I added some glass beads to my flower petals and flower center and a few sequins along with the word, "grow" that I cut out using My Favorite Things Little Letters Lowercase dies and my felt panel was complete. Again, I can't tell you how much fun this was to create. Felt is really easy to work with and I can't wait to see what you create using felt.
Don't forget to play along because you could win a $50 gift voucher and collect a bunch of their wafer dies to create amazing mixed media projects with felt.
