Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Red, White and/or Blue Featuring Sizzix

Hi Everyone! I hope you had an awesome weekend and you're ready with your craft supplies in hand for the next Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Our theme this week is, Red, White and/or Blue and we're featuring Sizzix products. I created a small wall hanging that I will display for the 4th of July and below I put together a tutorial on how I created my project.

Also, we have a new guest designer for the month of July. The amazing Beulah Bee is back!! She brings to our challenge some of the most amazing creations. Please stop by and give her some love.

I begin by cutting a 6" x 8" piece of white chipboard and cover the panel with an alternating pattern of tissue tape and space, each measuring 3/4" wide.

The panel is now covered with the tissue paper and the spaces in between are empty plain chipboard.

I create four 3/4" x 8" strips of Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock and on one of the strips I die cut out the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thin Sentiment Words "4th of July" on the end of the strip. I stencil each strip of card stock with a different pattern from the Tim Holtz Mini Stencil sets Nos. 8, 21, 26, and 27 using Wendy Vecchi white embossing paste. I set them aside to completely dry.

When the strips are dry, I ink on Festive Berries and Fired Brick Distress Ink and apply Fired Brick Distress Crayon pigment over the stenciled areas and rub the pigment in with my fingertips.

I measure an area for the blue part of the flag and color the space with a Copic B26 marker.

I adhere the stenciled strips to the background using Ranger Multi Matte Medium deciding to have the red strips run through the blue portion of the flag. I placed 3/4" strip of Simon Says Stamp Black card stock behind the 4th of July cut so that it stands out. I then set the panel aside to completely dry while I create some stars for my project.

I cut one star from the Sizzix Tim Holtz Dimensional Stars thinlits dies and all the stars from the Crescent Moon & Stars die. I cover them with glossy accents glue and dip them in Distress Stickles Dry Glitter to give them a beautiful sparkle and shine. It doesn't show up very well in the photos, but it really is gorgeous. I set them aside to completely dry.

For the words, I hand write words onto Simon Says Stamp Black card stock with a Uni Ball Signo White Gel Pen and cut them to small rectangles. I dip the edges into Simon Says Stamp White Pigment Ink to give them a nice white edge. Be careful with this ink as it smudges easily and takes longer to dry than dye inks.

Here are the completed words. I only use 4 of them for my panel.

To complete the wall hanging, I add the stars and words in random areas and add the word "america" to the bottom of the panel using the Sizzix Tim Holtz Block Talk Lowecase die set. I ink the edges of the panel with Black Soot Distress Ink and adhere the entire finished panel on a 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" piece of Simon Says Stamp Black card stock. Below are some close-ups.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the process I used to create my 4th of July wall hanging using Sizzix products for the Red, White and/or Blue challenge and that you join us for this fun challenge by adding your project to Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge Blog for your chance to win a $50 gift voucher to their amazing store.

  13. This challenge is one of my least favorite because I have such a hard time pulling red, white and blue together in a way that I like. But you have done it so perfectly here! This is spirited and bold without being garish and it hits so many perfect notes (no pun intended with your gorgeous music notes)! Love this from the details to how it looks at a quick glance!
